Description
A refreshing, vibrant, and sophisticated non-alcoholic summer drink featuring muddled blackberries, fresh mint, lime juice, and sparkling water. It is ready in just 5 minutes and offers a complex flavor profile that balances tartness and sweetness.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (150g) fresh or frozen blackberries
- 10–12 large sprigs fresh mint leaves (spearmint preferred)
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) fresh lime juice
- 1–2 tablespoons (15-30ml) simple syrup or honey
- 1 cup (240ml) club soda or unflavored sparkling water
- Ice (large cubes preferred)
- Optional garnish: Extra blackberry, mint sprig, lime wheel
Instructions
- Place blackberries, mint leaves, and simple syrup (or honey) into the bottom of a highball glass.
- Muddle the ingredients firmly to crush the berries and gently bruise the mint to release oils. Avoid over-muddling the mint to prevent bitterness.
- Squeeze fresh lime juice into the glass and stir the mixture until it turns a deep purple color.
- Fill the glass to the top with ice.
- Slowly pour club soda or sparkling water over the ice, pouring down the side of the glass or over the back of a spoon to preserve bubbles.
- Gently stir with a long spoon to mix without losing carbonation.
- Garnish with an extra blackberry and mint sprig. Serve immediately.
Notes
If using honey, whisk it with a little warm water first to ensure it dissolves in the cold drink. For parties, make a batch of the blackberry-mint-lime base in a pitcher and store in the fridge for up to 2 days; add ice and soda water just before serving to keep it bubbly. Do not store the mixed drink with soda as it will go flat.
