Description
These soft, pillowy honey butter dinner rolls are perfect for busy weeknights. They require zero kneading, have a fast rise time, and feature a delicious honey-butter glaze for a bakery-quality taste at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 packets active dry yeast (14g)
- 3 tablespoons honey
- ½ cup warm milk
- 3 to 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons extra honey (for glaze)
- Pinch of salt (for glaze)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, honey, and yeast. Whisk until dissolved and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add salt and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
- Add flour one cup at a time, mixing with a wooden spoon or hands. Stop when the dough pulls away from the sides but is still slightly tacky.
- Lightly grease a clean bowl with oil, place the dough inside, turn to coat, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let rise for 20-30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan.
- Punch down the risen dough gently. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and press into a rough rectangle.
- Cut dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a smooth ball and place in the baking pan, leaving space between them.
- Cover the pan with a towel and let rolls rise for another 15 minutes until puffy and touching.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Tap the top; it should sound hollow.
- While baking, mix melted butter, extra honey, and a pinch of salt for the glaze.
- Immediately upon removing from oven, brush the glaze generously over the hot rolls. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if using.
- Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Ensure water is warm (bath temperature) but not hot to avoid killing the yeast. Do not over-flour the dough; it should be soft and slightly sticky. For best results, brush the glaze on while rolls are still hot. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
