Smoked Salmon Bagel: The 5pm Dinner Hack

  • Author: Lisa
  • Total Time: 8 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick, elegant, and no-cook weeknight dinner that assembles in just 8 minutes. This smoked salmon bagel features whipped cream cheese, capers, and fresh dill for a restaurant-quality meal without the effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Everything Bagels
  • 810 ounces Smoked Salmon (lox or cold-smoked, deli-sliced)
  • 8 ounces Full-Fat Cream Cheese (block, softened to room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons Sour Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Maple Syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Capers (drained)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Dill (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Red Onion (thinly sliced)
  • Everything Bagel Seasoning (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, maple syrup, lemon juice, and garlic powder.
  2. Use a hand mixer on medium speed for 30-60 seconds (or whisk vigorously by hand for 2 minutes) until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and slightly airy.
  3. Slice the bagels in half and toast them until golden and crisp.
  4. Spread a generous layer of the whipped cream cheese mixture onto each toasted bagel half.
  5. Drape 2-3 slices of smoked salmon over the cream cheese on each bagel half.
  6. Scatter the drained capers, thinly sliced red onion, and chopped fresh dill over the salmon.
  7. Sprinkle with extra everything bagel seasoning if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure capers are well-drained to prevent soggy bagels. Toast bagels for better texture. Cream cheese mixture can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the fridge. Do not assemble bagels ahead of time as they will become soggy. For a vegan version, use vegan cream cheese and capers.
