Description
A quick, chewy, and gooey small-batch dessert that feeds two people. These blondies combine butter, brown sugar, flour, and a swirl of salted caramel sauce for an indulgent treat ready in under 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (120g) caramel sauce
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 6-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until just liquid. Let it cool for a minute.
- Whisk the brown sugar and granulated sugar into the melted butter until the mixture resembles wet sand.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, whisking vigorously until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Sprinkle the flour and salt over the wet ingredients. Gently fold with a spatula or fork until the flour just disappears. Do not overmix.
- Spread the thick batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Dollop spoonfuls of caramel sauce over the batter. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the caramel into the batter, creating marbled patterns.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and set, but the center still looks slightly soft and jiggly.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Let cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes to set before lifting out and cutting into 4 or 6 bars.
Notes
Do not overbake; the center should remain slightly soft as it will continue to cook in residual heat. Ensure you use a 6-inch pan for the correct texture; larger pans will result in thin, cakey bars. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for 10 seconds to restore gooeyness.
