Oktoberfest Spiced Beer Cocktail: 3-Ingredient Fall Party Drink

  • Author: Lisa
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A simple, festive, and spiced beer cocktail made with dark lager, fresh orange, and cardamom. It is perfect for fall gatherings, easy to batch, and offers a sophisticated yet approachable flavor profile.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (355ml) Dark Lager or Oktoberfest-style beer (e.g., Märzen, Vienna Lager)
  • 1 Fresh Orange (for juice and peel)
  • 23 Cardamom Pods (or 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom)
  • 1 teaspoon Honey or Maple Syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1 Orange Wheel (for garnish)
  • Pinch of Ground Cardamom (for garnish)
  • Ice Cubes

Instructions

  1. Wash the orange thoroughly. Cut a thin wheel for garnish and set aside.
  2. Cut a wide strip of orange peel (about 2 inches long), avoiding the bitter white pith.
  3. Hold the peel skin-side down over the glass and squeeze firmly to release aromatic oils into the drink.
  4. Rub the peel around the rim of the glass for extra aroma, then drop it into the glass.
  5. Add cardamom pods to the glass and gently muddle or press with the back of a spoon to crack them open.
  6. Add honey or maple syrup if using, allowing it to soften slightly before proceeding.
  7. Slowly pour the chilled beer over the ingredients to prevent excessive foaming and allow flavors to meld.
  8. Gently stir with a long spoon to combine.
  9. Garnish with the orange wheel and a pinch of ground cardamom.
  10. Serve immediately over ice, or skip ice and serve warm in a mug if preferred.

Notes

Avoid heavy stouts or IPAs as they clash with the spices. Use fresh orange juice for brightness. If making a batch for parties, keep spices in the pitcher but remove orange peels after 30 minutes to prevent bitterness. Do not boil the beer if serving warm, as it will lose carbonation.
