Description
These lazy, 5-ingredient crockpot BBQ baked beans are sweet, smoky, and tangy. They require zero effort, taste better than takeout, and are the perfect stress-free side dish for holidays and summer grilling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cans (28 oz each) baked beans (do not drain)
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- ½ cup brown sugar (dark brown preferred)
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- ½ cup bacon, cooked and crumbled (or bacon bits)
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1–2 teaspoons hot sauce (optional)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
Instructions
- Dice the onion and cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Drain on paper towels and crumble into small pieces.
- Add the two cans of baked beans (with sauce) to the slow cooker. Do not drain.
- Pour in the BBQ sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Add the diced onion.
- Stir everything together until well combined.
- Cover and cook on Low for 6-8 hours (or High for 3-4 hours).
- About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the cooked bacon to keep it crispy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If too thick, add a splash of water or broth. If too thin, cook uncovered for the last 30 minutes.
- Serve hot, topped with fresh cilantro and extra BBQ sauce if desired.
Notes
[‘Do not drain the canned beans; the sauce helps create the right consistency.’, ‘Add bacon at the end to maintain texture.’, ‘For a vegetarian version, substitute bacon with smoked paprika and soy sauce.’, ‘Flavors meld and deepen after sitting, making it great for make-ahead meals.’]
