Description
A simple, potent, and traditional immune-boosting remedy made by infusing raw honey with chopped garlic. This natural syrup helps soothe sore throats and supports the body’s defense against colds and flu.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large head of garlic (about 10–12 cloves)
- 1 cup of raw, unfiltered honey
- 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger, grated (optional)
- A few drops of lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
- Peel the garlic cloves by smashing them with the flat side of a knife to loosen the skin, then chop them into rough chunks (do not mince to a paste).
- Place the chopped garlic into a clean, dry 16-ounce glass jar. If using ginger, add it now.
- Pour the raw honey over the garlic, ensuring all garlic pieces are completely submerged to prevent molding.
- Use a spoon or spatula to push the garlic down into the honey and remove any air bubbles.
- Seal the jar tightly and store it at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
- Every day for 1-2 weeks, gently shake the jar or stir the mixture to ensure even infusion and prevent separation.
- After at least two weeks (one month is better), strain the honey through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean jar, pressing on the garlic to extract all liquid.
- Store the strained honey in an airtight glass jar at room temperature.
Notes
Ensure the jar is completely dry to prevent bacterial growth. The garlic must remain submerged under the honey at all times. Raw honey may naturally ferment or crystallize; this is normal. Do not microwave to liquefy; use warm water instead. Not suitable for infants under 1 year old.
