Description
A potent, shelf-stable immune-boosting tonic made with fresh horseradish, ginger, garlic, and cayenne steeped in raw apple cider vinegar. This spicy shot helps clear congestion and supports the immune system during cold and flu season.
Ingredients
- 32 oz (1 liter) raw, unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with ‘the mother’
- 1 cup chopped fresh Horseradish Root (approx. 100g)
- 1 cup chopped fresh Ginger Root (approx. 100g)
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh Turmeric Root (approx. 50g)
- 6–8 cloves Garlic, peeled
- 2–3 sprigs Fresh Thyme
- 1–2 teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Black Peppercorns
- 1 whole Lemon, thinly sliced
- 2–3 tablespoons Raw Honey (optional, for sweetness and preservation)
Instructions
- Wash all fresh roots and lemon thoroughly. Peel the ginger and turmeric. Chop horseradish, ginger, turmeric, and lemon into rough chunks or slices.
- Pack the chopped roots, garlic, thyme, cayenne, and peppercorns into a clean 1-liter glass jar. Add the lemon slices on top.
- Pour the raw apple cider vinegar over the ingredients, ensuring everything is completely submerged. Leave about an inch of headspace at the top.
- Seal the jar with a lid (use parchment paper between lid and jar if metal reacts with vinegar). Store in a cool, dark place.
- Shake the jar daily for 2-4 weeks to distribute flavors and prevent sticking.
- Strain the liquid through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer into a clean bowl, squeezing to extract all liquid. Discard solids.
- Stir in raw honey to taste.
- Pour into a clean glass bottle or jar and store in the pantry. It will last 6 months to a year.
Notes
Wear gloves when handling fresh horseradish and turmeric to avoid skin irritation and staining. Ensure all ingredients are fully submerged in vinegar to prevent mold. If mold appears, discard the batch. For a milder version, reduce horseradish and cayenne. Can be mixed with warm water for a soothing drink.
