Description
A creamy, anti-inflammatory morning ritual made with just a few simple ingredients. This dairy-free golden milk latte uses full-fat coconut milk, turmeric, and black pepper to create a soothing, velvety beverage that supports joint health and provides steady energy.
Ingredients
- 1 can (400ml) full-fat coconut milk (canned)
- 1–2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- ½ cup dairy-free milk (e.g., oat milk, almond milk) – optional, for thinning
- 1–2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey – optional, for sweetness
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger – optional
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon – optional
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract – optional
- 1 teaspoon butter or coconut oil – optional
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Combine the canned coconut milk (or milk base), ground turmeric, black pepper, and any optional spices or sweeteners in a small saucepan while the milk is still cold. Whisk gently to dissolve the turmeric and prevent clumping.
- Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Warm the mixture gently, stirring occasionally. Do not boil the milk, as this can destroy beneficial enzymes and scald the milk. Heat until steam rises and the temperature reaches about 160°F (70°C).
- Once hot but not bubbling, whisk vigorously for about a minute to ‘bloom’ the spices and create a creamy, frothy texture. Use a handheld frother if desired.
- Remove from heat and taste. Adjust sweetness with more maple syrup or thin with additional milk if too rich. Add a pinch of salt to enhance flavor.
- Pour immediately into a mug. Dust with extra turmeric or cinnamon if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
Do not boil the milk; keep heat low and steady. Shake the coconut milk can well before opening to mix the cream and water. Use fresh cracked black pepper to activate the turmeric’s curcumin. Turmeric stains easily, so be careful with spills and use cold water to clean stains. For a lighter version, use unsweetened almond milk and skip the syrup.
