Creamy Garlic Parmesan Orzo: Gentle Self-Care Dinner

  • Author: Lisa
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A comforting, one-pot creamy garlic parmesan orzo designed for tired evenings. This simple recipe requires minimal effort and cleanup, offering a warm, indulgent meal that feels like a hug in a bowl.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340g) orzo pasta
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1.5 cups (360ml) chicken or vegetable broth
  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 cup (100g) freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: 2 cups fresh spinach
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Place a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter slowly until foaming.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté gently for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.
  3. Pour in the orzo and broth, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low.
  4. Cover the pan and cook undisturbed for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most liquid is absorbed.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool for a minute.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream, then gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  8. If using, toss in spinach to wilt, or sprinkle with lemon zest and red pepper flakes.
  9. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

[‘Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese; pre-grated cheese contains anti-caking agents that prevent smooth melting.’, ‘Always add cheese off the heat to prevent the sauce from seizing or becoming grainy.’, ‘If boiling orzo separately, reserve some starchy pasta water to thin the sauce if needed.’, ‘This dish does not freeze well due to the dairy content; store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.’, ‘Reheat leftovers gently in a skillet with a splash of milk or cream to restore creaminess.’]
